Michael K. Simmons Memorial Scholarship
In 1994, we established the Michael K. Simmons memorial scholarship fund to recognize and award outstanding public relations students at area colleges and universities. 

The scholarship is awarded each spring to a college student enrolled in an accredited college or university and earning a degree in a communications-related field of study.

Award: A $1,000 tuition scholarship

Eligibility.  Any student attending a college or university in North Alabama who meets the eligibility requirements.  

    
o  Must have completed at least one semester of coursework
    
Must be enrolled in a communications-related field of study
    
Must submit an essay with the application
    
Must have a 3.0 (on a 4.0 grade scale) or a 2.0 (on a 3.0 scale) GPA
    
Must submit an academic letter of recommendation
    
Does NOT have to be enrolled full-time

Criteria.  The award selection will be based on the following criteria:

    
Need (please address in essay)
    
Grade point average (GPA)
    
Extracurricular activities (with favor given to communications-related activities)
    
Strength of recommendation
    
Quality of the essay

Deadline/Award.  All applications are due on a specified date in April and a scholarship recipient will be named in May. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, or other related expenses and will be split between the Fall and Spring semesters unless otherwise directed.
